Ivan, not sure how well your trex 500 flys, but here is a vid of Kyle Stacy flying a Gaui 425 with HeadHunter frame. Bill, I think your fixed wing practice will help you a bunch when you spool up the Hurri again. Get her in the air Bill.

Ivan, I have one of the 204162 canopies (middle photo) that you can have if you want it. It's new and unused. However, when I pulled it out of the box the first time it was by one of the narrow "ears" where the mounting grommet is and the weight of the canopy was enough to fold the ear over and it cracked the outer gel coat a little. The fiberglass backing isn't torn though. It's hardly noticeable (you can't actually see it unless you bend it) but I wasn't impressed with the quality of it at all. For the same price I bought a couple of the Fusuno canopies and thy are FAR, FAR, superior in quality. They even have the Hurricane 550 name painted on them (no stickers needed). Anyway, if you want it it's yours. No charge.... just send me your address and I'll send it to you. Bill Bill, I received the canopy today in excellent condition. Thanks again so much for it. This is going to work out perfectly based on eyeballing things. I need to get some bolts for the frame mod. It appears the stock bolts are not long enough. I can't wait to fly this bugger with the big batteries.

I wish you had mentioned the nose job bolts because I'm pretty sure I have ones that fit and could have sent them with the canopy. The bolts don't really need to match anything else on the heli so you really don't need to use metric but I believe M3 X 40mm is the size and I used nylon locking nuts on mine. Bill

Thanks Bill. I measured up for bolts too and came up with the same numbers. I can't wait for you to see the sticker job I did on the canopy. I just need some finishing touches and it should be good to go.

It is surgery time!!! I could not find M3 x 40 so I got 4-40 X 1 1/2 which should work fine.

WOW she is nose heavy with the 3000mAh packs on her. Looks like I will need to move the tail servo to the boom. What mounts are you guys using for that?
Maybe swap out the full size servos for mini servos which will help with CG too.

Ivan, I have my tail servo mounted on the boom on my 425. I used the stock Gaui mount ( part # G-204710), but IMO it is a little weak. The aluminum parts will bend if bumped hard. I think the Gaui boom is only 1mm smaller in diameter than the Trex 600, but not sure. You could measure them since you have both birds. The Trex 600 tail boom mount looks stronger to me, so it might be a better choice if the booms are close to the same diameter, I dunno.

Ivan,
I have the standard mount for the tail boom, as well. What I need to do is see if the T-Rex 600 boom can be used and use tie wrap-wedge thing to hold it in place or grind away a mm or so from the pinch point, if possible. Maybe both. I think the stock mount is clunky looking and with a single screw holding the mount arms to the boom piece, it can shift.

Ivan, the canopy turned out great!! I don't really have a CG problem but I'm also using the longer 550 boom which gives the tail assembly more leverage (also using the Cncheli CNC tail). I'm using full size servos with a frame mounted tail servo. I'm assuming that you may be using the middle size boom??? My Turnigy 3300 6S 30/40C battery weighs 570g with connector.

Hey, Ivan, I found these: www.helidirect.com/trex-600-cnc-servo-mount-silver-p-4895.hdx?page=3&op=list&sort=2aIt's a CNC servo mount for T-Rex 600's. Helidirect doesn't have them in stock but RC Hover does. So, I ordered one to play with. I did this after grinding away some plastic on the standard T-Rex 600 tail servo mount ring and found that it fits realy nice. I don't however, have an undamaged carbon fiber plate for it. So, this takes care of that. What I'm going to do is grind away about 1mm from each side of the thicker portion of the ring and let her rip. The plus with this is that I don't have to remove the boom to do this. I'll just slide the old mount out one side at a time and replace it with this mount. Next, I'll cut off the old mount. Scott PS. My wife made me a Lemon Shake-up! I know you didn't care for them much at IRCHA, but I figured I'd mention it because it reminded me of IRCHA!

Good idea Scott. I just found THIS at HobbyKing. Cheap too. I think I am going to try the stock plastic Trex 600 one but with a ziptie underneath ala tail control rod supports. I love the lemon shakeups... I just thought $5 was a bit expensive compared to the very cheap food prices.
