Ok guys, what is your favorite, and least favorite ( if you had one) gyro?
I am planning on building another Gaui heli in the 500mm blade range to go between my 425 and 550. Not sure yet if I will do the "build from spare parts" thing I was considering, or, maybe just ante up and get an X5.
I am using JR G770's on both of my Hurri's and I am very happy with them, but, thought I might try something different for a change on the new build whenever it happens. The newer JR G370 and G270 look like winners too, and the G370 seems to be capable of being used on a larger heli too.
I don't see too many Spartan gyros for sale on the other rc forums, so guys must be pretty happy with them also.
So, what are you using and what are the pros and cons of them?
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry, I've used Telebee, Logictech 2100, GY401 and Spartan Quark. The quark was the most expensive (although they have come down in price recently) but is the hands down favorite. It just worked the best out of the box with little adjustment. It is really not vibration or crash sensitive. I had one tail rotor break in-flight with the whole tail end shaking and the tail still held so I could land plus I have had a couple of crashes and it still works fine. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Either the 760 or the Quark. Take your pick. Both do the job. About the only negative I can see in either is the cable length. On the 760, it's too long for smaller helicopters and on the Quark, it's too short for larger helicopters. But, all things considered, I've use the el-cheapo PowerTech that came with my BH500, Logictech, Align, and Futaba 401... of them all the Align that came with my 450pro comes closest to Spartan in ease of use. Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I will get either a JR or a Spartan. The prices are about the same. Like I mentioned, I have been real happy with the JR's, but it is always nice to try something different for a change.

Spartan Quark is the best, period. And the best price is $120 at Hobbyking. Futaba newer gyros would be the next choice (forget about 401 please). Modern FBL systems are doing well too. SJGD(Inertia) and Align are one step down but still not bad. JR has never made a desent tail servo yet (considering their price and reputation) but their gyros really, really suck. I have had no experience with Curtis gyros at all. The rest of them is pretty much junk.

This thread is a year old but what the heck......
I have yet to get a Spartan to fly well. It may just be the heli / tail servo I am using though.
My first experience was on a Rave 450 with Hitec HSG-5084MG tail servo and Quark. It never really felt like I wanted it to. I really like they way the GY401 and Align gyros fly and I could not get that feel out of the gyro. Starts and stops felt soft and it was always too slow in the center. I even added negative expo to speed and increased piro rate to speed things up. I did not have the USB programmer so I never played around with that.
Second was on my Gaui 255. I pulled the JR G270 off and put the Quark on it using the same Hyperion DS09GMD servo. The tail held better than the G270 but again, I just could not get it to feel right. I think it has to do with the Hyperion servo. I think it is just too small for the task.
Third was the Rave 450 again but this time with DS760 and JR 3400G. That combo flat out sucked. It was so bad I had to get the USB programmer and work on dialing it in. I had bounce in CCW piro stops and slide to stop in CW. Piro start and stops were horrible and had a really bad feel in center. All the playing around with the programmer and ball position got it livable but it really needs a better tail servo. My JR 3500G was down with a missing tooth. I just replaced the gear set in it yesterday and it will be going on the Rave today which will hopefully finally make me a happy Spartan owner.
I have more Futaba GY401s than anything. Then Align GP-750 / GP-780 gyros. They feel "right" to me.
