I think just for fun, I will build a cheap Hurri in the 500mm range all from spare parts that I have accumulated over the last 1 1/2 years. When I first bought my 550 kit, I would always take some time looking for cheap spare parts in case I needed them someday.
I got a complete head, assembled on the main shaft on Ebay one day for $12.00. Heck, the swash plate alone costs $49.00 so I figured it was a good deal. I got an esc and 2 Gaui motors for $40. Last Christmas, Ready Heli was giving away $30,000.00 in free heli parts and I got $170 worth of free parts including a frame, medium size tail boom, XL522 belt, gears, hubs, bearings, etc.
I know I could just buy a 425 kit for $75, but it seems like it might be fun to just put one together all from spare parts.
It would be my "try new stuff, I don't care if I crash doing a triple back-flip" heli.
With summer flying weather coming I might not get time to work on it much, but when I do, I will start a new thread in the 425/550 board and try to keep it updated on any progress.
Not sure what my next "real" heli build will be, but I am thinking about building either a Gaui 255 for those small flying areas, or possibly a Protos 500, I dunno yet.
Whadda ya think? Waste of time, or some good ol heli building fun?

Jerry,
I think it's a great idea doing that. You know, I've toyed with the idea of building a 425 out of the parts I didn't use in my stretch build. I didn't do it, but I think it's a great project for you.
I'd do the Protos. I'm VERY impressed with that helicopter. It's an original design that delivers big time!

Scott, you should have enough parts to build a couple of helis, lol. I remember that you were always picking up something while stretching your 425 into the HH 550.
I enjoy building them as much or maybe even more than flying them, and thought using up a bunch of spare parts for a complete build would be kind of enjoyable for me.
Not too sure on the next heli purchase though as we may be picking up and moving to Kentucky before winter and I may even end up having to give up the hobby, I dunno yet. It is still up in the air right now.
But for now, I think I will go ahead and start gathering up the spare parts and build another Hurri, sized between my 425 and 550.
