Hi guys, I was watching some of the fineless vids on HF. I noticed a few of you are over there too So I have a few questions. I plan to keep this a 500 (425), are those ok to watch? Is the bell crank offsets still an issue? When I first started I used to be a bling boy, but not now. I'm keeping it plastic unless someone here tells me that the plastic kits are absolute crap. In the finless head disassembly and re-assembly video, he found a lot of issues, but this video is fairly old. Have those issues been fixed? i.e. short links, thread lock, tight ball links, tight washout arms... etc. I watched the servo video too. That was a bit painful, anything easier that I should know about would be most helpful. Thanks in advance, Robby

Well, it has been about a year and a half since I watched the Finless vids while building my 550, but I will try to answer some of your questions based on memory.
I am currently putting together a 425 kit myself and here is what I found.
The mixing levers are not supposed to be level with the blade grips, as he said, and made adjustable links for. The mixing levers should be at 90 degree angles to the link rod that goes to the swash plate, which runs at a slight angle.
The issue with the rods being too short has been fixed.
The binding/contact issue with the washout arms has also been fixed as you will see the part he was going to 'notch' now has a notch already in it.
Every part on my 425 that came pre-assembled was loc-tited, but, I found this out only because I took the time to check them.
Be very careful installing the L-45 links as they seem to be undersize and break. I saw several posts over at Freak about guys breaking them while installing them. Since my build bench is in the basement, I set mine on the furnace to warm them up a little and both of them still broke at the ball end when I installed them. Might need to size them a little. I just made 2 adjustable metal rod links to replace mine with.
For the servo set-up, if you buy the Gaui brand CNC pitch and roll arms, and elevator lever, you do not need the offset on the servo arms.
I would recommend the CNC anti rotation guide though, and for high head speeds, maybe the CNC main blade grips.
Hope this helps,
Jerry

Right on Time... thank you man. Exactly what I was looking for. I will use every suggestion you made. Thought about a 6S system with seperate BEC, but I saw you post about another BEC in the Electronics section. I haven't even broke it out of the box yet, just trying to plan my build. I'll build the frame this weekend probably. Anyway, thanks again.
Later, Robby

Hey guys, thanks a ton. Just looked at those plates. I'm a hyperion guy, and I wonder if they would work? Hyperion servos are great bang for the buck servos, but, I've found they are kind of the red headed step child that the big boys don't want to talk abuout i.e. Spartan, Curtis Youngblood, CSM. I was thinking DS16's for the cyclic. I might buy both sets of plates. I'd be out 9 bucks, but I guess it's worth it. I thought the finless vids were pretty old, but I was hoping to grab some useful info out of them. He's fairly big on having everything 90. I am too for the most part, but if you say having that mixing arm is ok like that, you're the Gaui guys. It just looked like he was re-inventing that heli, so I got a little worried. He even changed to a Raptor tail. On that note, do you think getting some weighted tail grips, ala "Chinese Weights", might be a worthwhile investment? Or do you think that's a non-issue with this tail system? Anyway, thanks again guys! For someone who was just going to lurk I ended up posting a bunch Robby

Hey Robby, Scott is running Hyperion servos on his Hurri 550 and he said he was very happy with them. I was going to use them on my 425 build, but got a heck of a deal on the DS821's that I couldn't pass up.
As for the servo plates, I think you will be able to make them work with just about any servos. The only thing I really noticed, was that the hole in the center of the Spektrum CF plates fit perfectly around the "rib" in the center of the Spektrum servo arms. Makes it easy to be sure the plate is centered on the arm. Other than that I don't see why they would not work on any other servo arm.
I have read of a few guys complaining about the stock tail set-up. For that reason, I bought the Gaui "thrusted" tail hub set for mine. It is about $12 I think.
I am still building my own 425 right now, so I can't tell you how everything is working out, but I have had my 550 for about a year and a half now and love it.
BTW, no need to just 'lurk' here, the more info posted, the better it will help others.
