Well, the weather has been pretty nice here lately, but there is always a chance for snow and cold through April here. Anyhow, the nice weather has encouraged me to start getting the helicopters ready for the new flying season.
I decided to start going over them one at a time today, oiling bearings, checking belt tension, checking for loose screws, ball links, etc. Still have a couple more to go over, but I am not in a big "Hurri", lol.
I also still have to repair my 200 that got crashed late last season. The damage wasn't bad, but I still haven't figured out what caused the crash as it just started to piro out of control. I am thinking the tail servo crapped out on it. It had one of those cheap analog HS-50's on it and I have had 2 of those burn up on one of my beater HBK2's.
All of the bigger helicopters, the 2 425's, the HeadHunter framed 500, and the 550 were all flying great at the end of last season so just need to do some routine maintenance on them.
So, do all of you guys that live where winter is almost over have your birds ready for the new season?

Good point. My season never ended,my 1st Gaui purchase opened up a whole new flying arena,i learned cp helicopters in my living room on a H200 with no expo or D/R. One thing is clear that it teaches you self control for sure. My recently finished 255 has been outdoors a fair bit mind although i dont think twice about gingerly hovering round the helico.. sorry living room. But in reply to your post i bought my first Nitro heli a couple of months ago a pre-loved Thunder Tiger Raptor 30,hot-rodded with a ASP .46 motor in it. The bulk of the rebuild was completed some time ago and it was test hovered shortly after, but a few bug-bears raised their head. The headspeed was way way too high, and previous minor damage from the fitted oversize motor was apparent. Two very out of shape Jesus bolts and a very worn head block. Just this week i have fitted a Revlock 20 governor to tame it a little,a new head block and fresh Jesus bolts, some ball links are on their way to replace some other suspect items on the airframe. So almost ready for the outdoor months-next couple of days and ill be set. Alex.

Hey Alex, good luck with the new "Rappy". I hope you get it flying to your liking. I don't have any nitros myself, all electric, but I do enjoy the smell of nitro burning in some of my friends RC cars and trucks.

Thanks Jerry The QuickUK ball links and Revlock counterweight arrived this morning too. I had told myself that i would never bother with nitro again after recently selling my Savage 4.6 ss,but i couldnt refuse the Raptor when i was offered it from a friend. Theres quite a bit more to do compared to the electric stuff, but not that much, and it has been enjoyable doing it. Its not that i didn't get on with I.C stuff, its just that i keep all my models in immaculate condition so the nitro's can require a little more maintainance and cleaning-but the biggest issue is that i have to carry more gear, choose my flying sites more carefully and alas theres no quick blasts round the house with this monster. Oh yeah £25 a gallon for nitro too Alex

I don't know what nitro fuel costs here in the states but $40 a gallon sounds pretty expensive to me. That is a US gallon anyway. BTW, a little off topic, but, I'm guessing keyboards must be a little different in the UK than ours are. I don't have a key with the symbol for GBP, lol. Mine only has $$$$$$$$$

QE 3, around the corner! Scott I sure hope not since all that money just gets invested in commodities, driving up the price of everything we buy.

It also gets invested in the stock market, Jerry. That's the reason the Dow has been going up and down like a yo-yo for the last couple of weeks. The market has grown to depend on Big Ben's words and any delay in quantitative easing sends them all into a spin. They're like drug addicts. The market should stand on its own.

I agree Scott, It seems like there are no fundamentals regarding the stock market any more though. When Ben speaks, the market moves, sometimes up, sometimes down. Sure plays hell on my 401K. Financial troubles in Europe seem to move the market on a daily basis. One day, all is good, next day, all is bad, seems to change overnight. What pisses me off is, when the market falls 100 points, I loose $300 or more, but then when the market gains back 100 points, I only gain $60. WTF is up with that? ?? Seems like nothing but a big Ponzi scheme to me. Jerry

I think if you're talking 401k, it really depends on what your investment choices are and what's affected by such swings. In 2008, I started listening to and watching CNBC daily. Thankfully, I was able to tailor my 401k to be relatively stable during such swings, but I do loose and gain. I think the thing to do is know your investments and protect them in which ever way doesn't expose you to the whims of a fickle market.

Well, I recently changed my investment allocations to try to avoid the crazy daily swings. I won't earn a great deal, but hopefully not loose a great deal either. On another note, a little more on topic to getting ready for the flying season.........lol. The weather forecast for my area is for 6 to 12 inches of snow Monday. www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/april-appalachian-snowstorm-i8/64333

I cant believe two administrators are cluttering their own sites threads with this sort of totally off topic dribble, its hard enough to keep threads relevant and maintain users interest, thats why there are chat rooms and PM systems. Still pissing myself with laughter.... Alex

Still pissing myself with laughter.... AlexThat statement sounds like something that would come from an administrator of one of the many other forums. I think every one of my threads here has gone off-topic, but mainly because of myself, lol. We don't rule with an "iron fist" here Alex. We are here to enjoy ourselves, and if that leads to straying away from the topic, so be it. Our rules are pretty simple. Keep it clean as it is a pubic site, don't bash others if you disagree with them, and enjoy the site as much as possible. AND more importantly, try not to piss yourself while logged on to the site. We don't offer reimbursement for laundry expenses. We will now return to our regularly scheduled programming. (Ah, whatever that might be) ;D Jerry

I'm going through all my helicopters and redoing things like rate mode setup on the tails. I don't know why I ever got away from doing that. With a microbeast, it's essential. I went through and lubed up my furion 6 Friday evening. My HeadHunters, with the exception of the rate mode tail setup are ready to go. My Velocity 50 will probably need the engine torn down and cleaned out... gotta replace the fuel magnet. My Align helicopters are ready to go except for the 500. That guy needs blades tracked because I replaced the RJX FBL head with a TracX head over the winter. Other than that... I have a new set of batteries coming in this week.. I bought a pair of 5300 mah 6s Gens Ace batteries for my 7hv. That means I have to break-in those guys. I might just use my chargers cycler. I get bored essentially hovering for three minutes at a pop. Scott
