Having lived in western PA all my life I got pretty used to cold, windy, snowy winters and never really minded it all that much, except when I have to work out in it all day. After getting into the RC helicopter hobby a few years ago, I now HATE winter. I really love flying and get a lot of enjoyment out of it. I am not one to rush out for a quick flight during the weekdays before work. I enjoy going out on a Saturday or Sunday in the early afternoon and spending 4 or 5 hours at the field with my grandson. I fly a little, then we play catch with a baseball or football for a while, then I fly some more, then watch him hit some golf balls ( he loves golf ) while I run around and retrieve the golf balls, then fly some more, rinse and repeat. Winter hasn't even really started yet, but it has been cold and very windy for the last month or so, so no flying for me. Our winter hobby is building, tuning and racing tiny HO scale slot cars which I also enjoy, but, sitting next to my helicopters in the "hobby room" makes me want to go out and fly. A little sim practice is ok for a quick "fix", but just isn't the same. I have never used drugs but I think the withdrawal symptoms of being a 'heli addict' might be as bad or worse than those of a drug addict. There should be a warning label on helicopter kits.

There's always the alternative, which depending on your ability to do so, is quasi viable. You could live to work instead of working to live. I'm in the latter category, though at times it seems as if the former applies. At this point in my career, I'll take being bored. Scott

I guess I am in the "work to live" category then. Being a heavy duty truck mechanic for the last 2 decades, and having a truck fall on me, one run over me, getting my ass cheeks pinched between 2 runaway trucks, catching myself on fire many times while burning and welding parts, and falling off of many trucks head first down into the frame, I can't really say that I enjoy my job all that much. I do it cause I need to feed my family and pay the bills. Now that I am in my 50's I wish I had an easier job. Unfortunately I have little knowledge with computers, networking, accounting, etc where mental abilities are more important than mechanical abilities.

Jerry, Look at the positives... you're alive, you've got a great family, and at least one great friend that I know of! Scott <---great friend.

Haha, you're right Scott. Unfortunately my job just seems to consume most of my time, and now that winter is here I can't go fly on Sunday either. Can't wait till spring gets here.
