How do you guys set up the tail on your Gaui 550? Mine was set up with the tail blade pitch at 0 at mid stick with the gyro in rate mode but some people suggest setting the mechanically neutral position of the tail blades to be approximately 5 degrees, to offset the natural tendency for the helicoter to rotate with no gyro input. I feel this may be a better option as the gyro and servo would have less work to do when the heli is in forward flight but what are your thoughts.
Do not suppose it matters so much with the gyro in HH mode.

On my Headhunter's I put about about 8 degrees of pitch against torque and they hold just fine. I'm using a CNC Heli V2 tail on both of them. I hover in rate mode, let go of the rudder and see which way it goes. I adjust the push rod to get it right, then back to heading hold.
The amount of pitch generally depends on the tail drive ratio and what's designed in. On my Furion 6, 2 - 3 degrees works fine. In fact, at center, it's there.

Thanks for that Scott, I think I will have a play with my tail set up at the flying field tomorrow (weather and wife permitting of course!).

Very cool, Barry. Let us know how it goes! (I know about other obligations, too! )

Just to add my 2 cents, lol. I am not nearly as meticulous with my builds as Scott, and never set up the tail in rate mode first, but, that is just me. All helicopters are different, and the size of the tail blades will have an effect too. I generally just set all of my helicopters up with a round about 6 degrees or so of pitch in the tail blades, against torque. Then I just fly in HH mode and see how it flys. If I get a little drift I just add or subtract a little pitch in the tail blades. I suppose setting up in rate mode first would give the best mechanical set-up, but I am always too busy to take the time to make everything just perfect. That is why I will likely never go FBL as I don't have the time or patience to set up the FBL controller. Jerry

Microbeasts are easy, Jerry. Mechanical setup is much easier. Only five links to play with. Scott

Waste of time going up to the field today the wind her in the UK was 25 mph gusting up to 40 mph, so not a good day for trying tail set ups !! Gained some points with my wife though by doing some house improvements.
I like the look of those flybar less heads as they are much cleaner but like Jerry I have to ask myself am I happy with setting up the software, so will also be staying with flybars for the time being. Nice to see Spektrum are starting to incorporate the Best X flybarless into their receivers now as that will make the wiring simpler too, which may attract more buyers.

It's universal. Wives like it when we stay home and help out. That's why I burn 5-10 packs as fast as I can when I go flying. Na... actually, my wife is wonderful. She supports me without question in helicopters. So, that's cool. Not a good day at all here, either. The spectrum/ubeast combo is going into the my HeadHunter, the day I get it. The ubeast is going into my crashed HH. Scott

Sunday is my designated flying day. My wife works from 10am till 8pm on Sunday, so, I usually just take my grandson out for the day to fly, play catch, hit some golf balls and whatever. It's our day together. Hope you get to fly that Hurri soon Barry. Scott, I have been tempted to get one of those new Spektrem RX's with integrated BeastX, but, I might like it and certainly can't afford to convert all of my helicopters to FBL, so, I have been avoiding it, lol. Besides, I know that you are well aware of the fact that I have no patience with electronics. I wonder if Bill got snow today. Looks like a large part of PA got some heavy snow. Glad it was East of me. Jerry

Dunno, Jerry. I'm just happy the snow stayed WAY East of me. I don't need snow in October. What I do need is a few dry days with a high wind day after to blow all the leaves out... or else, I break out the lawn mower and get rid of the leaves that way. Patience with electronics? Who has that? Microbeast is just easy to setup. I think you'd do well the new Spektrum unit when it becomes available. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting two of them. Scott

Well finally got a fairly wind free day to try the Gaui out and ended up with an offset of around 6 degrees on the tail blades to give a stable forward flight in rate mode. First thing I noticed was that the tail servo was quieter when the heli was first powered up in rate mode, whereas, with original 0 degree offset it used to buzz. Do not know if it was just the different weather conditions but it did seem more lovcked in and appeared to track better in both rate and HH modes plus the tail servo was definately cooler than previously.
Thanks for all your help with this and for me the 'static tail blades offset' seems to work best.
