Figured start with the woodies, probably need more. Itching to see how different the 550 Prp 3-D FRP' fly. I may do initial head set up with them as somebody said doing it that way was more precise. Although I have no idea if that applies if I take them off for the woodies. common sense says it should be fine.

I wanted the X5 tail grip and hub to get thrust bearings. Didn't hurt nexgen said it was the best tail he'd flown (at least in a Gaui)

Things like Align 600 flybar, bigger paddles I'll get at the LHS. Hate to pay shipping on screws, little things I can drive 10 min. to get.

Any feedback? It's baby steps for me. At some point I'll replace the Turnigy 3126 1300kv with some thing in the 910 to 1100 range.

Oh, ordered some OW shaft bearings from VBX.

Sorry for the late reply Todd, must be a glitch in our system. I log on several times a day and just click the 'posts since last visit' button on the bottom right of the home page to check for new posts, but for some reason this thread did not come up.

Anyhow, the Rhino gears should work fine so long as they fit your motor pinion shaft, and are .8 mod. I too have heard the X5 tail is better and have 2 of them, but never installed them yet....

I like mounting the tail servo on the boom instead of the frame. Frame mounted gives more protection, but, if you need to re-tension the belt, you need to re-adjust the control rod too. No need to do that with a boom mounted servo.

You will need to run a different head speed with 500mm blades vs 550mm blades. About 2200 to 2400 works good with 500's, and about 1850 to 2000 with 550's.
Sometimes wood blades will track just a little different compared to FG or CF blades. I generally set the head up for 0 degrees pitch at mid stick on both blades. With FG or CF blades I have never had to re-set blade tracking, but, sometimes with woodies I needed to change a link one turn to get them spot on.

If you set it up with wood blades at 0 pitch on both blades and have to change a link length to get tracking right, just reset 0 pitch again on both blades if you switch to FG or CF blades and see how they track.

The easiest way I have found to set the blades at 0 pitch is to turn the blades 90 degrees left or right in the grips and see if they are perfectly straight across. I put a straight edge on them and adjust so they are on a perfect horizontal plane.
