Hi all
Just a quick question to the Stateside members
As i am moving there in a couple of weeks my question is, whats the position as to flying small electric heli's in the various parks/public places etc, of course i will take up AMA membership for the insurance aspect of it but are there any restrictions that i need to know about. I have enquired to a local (to Cincinnati) flying club but as yet they have not got back to me.
Any help would be appreciated
Malcolm

Park flying is perfectly legal for most 450 sized helis. As long as you are flying in a spot where it is not prohibited and you are following AMA's rules on park flying.
I fly at a local grade school a LOT. I have bent the rules a few times and flown up to 600 sized helis with a spotter watching for people or animals entering the flying area.

I suppose it might depend on the state, or city as far as having their own specific rules. For me, I fly in a city owned field that has several practice baseball fields connected together behind the 'main' field which is fenced in. Police patrol it to prevent illegal dumping and just wave to me as they drive by, so.......all is good there.
I have also flown in a field at a state park about 10 miles from me. I stopped in the park office and asked the Game Warden if it was ok to fly there. He basically told me that electric powered helicopters could be flown there, but I would be liable for any damage or injury caused by my helicopters.
