I just read Jerrys new post POWER SYSTEMS THAT WORK we newbees need post like this. We don't know what will work and what doesn't work. A couple months back old dutch said he was going to buy the best that ok. But a month ago a young guy was trying to build a 425 and keep the cost down I didn't think this was good idea. But thinking back to my plank flying days I never had the best or most costly and I was happy with that. All you realy need is something good and doesn't give you a lot of problems. I have a eflite B 400 That in the air just about everyday ( it is my beater) it realy don't fly great and its to small for these old eyes. I have a 550 gaui that i really like , Flys great it's stable and flys in the wind quite well . I don't want to crash it right now I NEED A BIGGER BEATER!!! I have a 425 gaui just waiting for main parts and upgraded to 550. What I need is a list of good realiable parts (cheap) for it's just going to be my new beater, parts like esc, bec, moter, gyro, blades, servos, elect. Jerrys post that he just started is a good thing but we newbees need a good list of parts that does not break the bank. Take the time and make it easy on us newbees ,and make it a big list.
I just wanted to hover darrell

Well Darrell, if we can get enough people to chime in and tell us about some decent, lower cost parts that work well, we could start a new "low cost" build thread. Many of the lower cost parts work well, but do not offer all the many features of the higher priced parts. I have stock Gaui esc's on all 3 of my Gaui helicopters. They cost much less than the high-end esc's, but do not have all of the programming features that the higher cost esc's have. So far, I have not had a stock esc failure. I have used and still do use HobbyWing esc's in some of my other helicopters. They are pretty reasonably priced, and so far, I have not had any of them fail yet. I also use a HobbyWing 5amp ubec on my 425. Decent price, and works great. I use Spektrum/JR DS821 servos on the cyclic on both my 425 and 550. They are just under $30 each, and have been just fine for my sport flying. For motors, I have found the Tonic-X Z-power motors from HeliDirect to be great for the price. I have one in my Gaui 425 and also have a small one in my Blackhawk 450. Gyros are a different story I think. I have cheap Telebee gyros on my little King 2's and my BH450 and they work great on those small helicopters, but not sure I would put one on a 550, I dunno, never tried. I use JR G770 gyros on my larger helicopters, but, they are not cheap. They are about the same price as most other popular gyros like Spartan's, and Futaba's. Many good deals can be found on eBay if you are a registered member there. Just be sure to check out the seller's feedback before you buy from them. On another note. If you just want to build a " cheap, I don't care if I crash it" helicopter, Value Hobby has Power HD , full size metal gear servos for as little as $13.30 each. I have never used that brand of servo, so I cannot comment on the quality, or lack of it. Their G-Force line of batteries are also reasonably priced. I have used them in different sizes in my King 2's, my BH450, and my Gaui 550 and have had no problems with any of them yet, and some are 2 years old now. Oh yeah, blades. I have used the cheap 430mm, and 550mm, Pro 3D blades from HeliDirect and they work great. Sorry all, for the long-winded post, just trying to offer my opinion on some lower cost parts for those who are looking to put together a 'budget' helicopter. I pick up as many lost cost parts as possible. Sometimes they crap out, but so can the higher end stuff. I got my align 75a esc's used, for half the regular price and they work great with both the zpower motors (picked up quite a few of these used two years ago) and the newer scorpions. I still continue to fly the same 6 ds821 servos that i got a long time ago. Never had an issue with them in flight, but did break 2 of the servo arms in crashes. Never had to replace a gear in them yet and they still fly fine at 6v. I purchased the last 3 of them for $10 each.. so it was hard not to pick them up. I second on the use of the pro 3-d blades.. they work fine and are low cost. I'd rather not cut costs on any electronics, especially gyros or tail servos, but have run some cheaper versions/clones and they were ok as long as you keep in mind that they may blow out during some kinds of transitions. As a rule, i don't skimp on tx, rx or components for the head or tail. About the only exception would be plastic tail cases. I have had both cnc and plastic cases but continue to run the plastic ones at the same high speeds as the cnc hop ups without any issues, and they are easier on the wallet to replace than the cnc versions.. and weigh less. Happy and safe flying! Steve

Thank you Steve That is what I was looking for and it will help . But I need little more. I got into Rc planes in 1964 with no success, In the late 60s I picked up a used tx & rx a orbit 3 + 1 a new sig kadet ,I had a McCoy 35 rc motor cost $5.00 new SUCCESS!!! Then a goldberg falcon 56 and the McCoy 35 and a new Hobby Lobby 6 ch tx & rx yes hobby lobby, I used it for years NO problems I ended up with 3 then I went to futaba. Why Hobby Lobby ? Kraft was the best at that time cost over $400 Hobby lobby 6 ch cost $199 that doesn't sound like much today but in 1975 I got a new car (OLS) for less than 4 thousand. My point is if it wasn't for cheaper equipment I wouldn't be in R C today. Aim not looking for that gyro that holds perfect or the motor that doesn't bog, or that supper fast servo, just some parts that work. Steve points are will taken he is a expert that is plane to see in his vids and he need real good equipment to do what he does but I don't. I think back if I could just hover I would be HIGH well I am higher than those people on crack. I only wanted to hover ? Darrell
