Hate to say it, but it sounds like the servo isn't fast enough to react to commands from the gyro. That's my take...yo!

Scott Well, I discovered something else today, and it makes me think that it just doesn't have enough tail authority. When I mentioned that the tail kicked out about 90 degrees in stunt 1, I failed to realize that as soon as it kicked out, I pulled back on the throttle a little and that might be why it stopped there. SO, I took it out to the middle of the field where there was lots of room, took off into an eye level hover, then punched the throttle and just held it there till the heli got so high I could hardly see it. ( Which isn't too far for these old eyes, lol ) What I noticed was that it just made continuous piros all the way up into the sky. I counted 5 complete piros as it went up. I re-checked the servo travel and the tail pitch slider is moving as far as it can without hitting. Seems I need to somehow speed up the tail with different gearing, or maybe some bigger tail blades, I dunno.

Bigger blades, I'd guess.

I think I will fire the mechanic, lol. After looking the lil 200 over one more time Saturday, I found a problem. After installing a different tail servo, I didn't realize, er, ah , the mechanic didn't realize that the screw holding the tail control rod onto the servo arm was too long and rubbing on the tail boom, causing a lot of friction and binding. I removed the screw, ground about 1mm off and reinstalled it. Took the heli to the field today and it flew great, at least for a couple flights. Much to my surprise, I got it in a stable eye level hover and let go of the sticks for about 3 seconds and it just stayed there. It is kinda small for my old eyes to see, but a lot of fun to fly as long as I keep it fairly close. It is a bitch to work on though as everything is so tiny.

Cool, Jerry... Those kind of things make me wonder. Scott I hear ya Scott. As much as I try to get everything just perfect when building, or repairing one of my helis, sometimes I create problems by getting in a hurry. I gotta learn to try to slow down a little.

Not good, Jerry. I wish I knew more about your helicopter, but I don't. I'd go with the tail servo, still.

If you do decide to change tail blades, all the Align 250 blades work as do the 40mm KBDD blades.

Hey Ivan, Glad to see that you finally popped in here. Scott and I have been kicking it around in here a little, but, neither one of us has any experience with the lil 200.
What is up with the crazy tail design? Can't get much pitch in the blades without the tail slider hitting the tail case where the arm mounts. Any thoughts on this? One thing I did notice is that the stock tail case just has 2 little cf plates on the sides. One of them is worn and the bearing moves in it a little too.
Also, what is a good micro servo to use with the LTG 2100?

Jerry, yeah, the tail slider assembly is kind of odd. You have to watch for a bind on that. Double check the limits in both rate and HH. On the GU210, the slider travels further in HH than it does in rate (for example).
Micro tail servos..... ARGGGhhhhhh.... The DS420 does not work well on the Trex 250 but the Futaba S3154 worked better but was not perfect, the DS09GMD does not work well on the Gaui 200, the 290G does not work well on the 255. Micro servos on 450s do not work well either. I have yet to find a good micro tail servo to be honest. Most people seem to run a mini servo with better results but with a weight penalty. The 3100g is the servo that is paired up with the 2100t... this is the same as the Hitec HS-5083MG

Thanks for the info Ivan. I guess I will just have to try a few different tail servos till I find one that works decent. Is the 2100T a good gyro for this little heli? I have never used one, so not sure if they are even any good. It came with the heli, so I didn't bother spending the money on a different one.

Jerry, the 2100T is not one of my preferred gyros. They are a PITA to set up, I have never been able to get rid of drift and never got one to actually "feel" like I think it should.
I just went through an HG500 (same thing) yesterday on a B400 and The tail just is not right.
I have only used the GU210, GU365, GP750 and JR G270 3D on the smaller helis. The GP750 and Futaba S3154 worked the best out of all the combos but I still think the servo was a bit small.

Thanks for that Ivan. I am thinking of maybe getting another gyro and tail servo for it. I just never had so much trouble with getting a tail to hold. On my Blackhawk 450 I use a cheap Telebee gyro and HS-50 tail servo and it holds much better than the set-up on the Gaui 200.

Small birds are a PITA. Not one of my small helis has a great tail. They all wag or drift or move around. They all fly just fine though.
What is yours currently doing that you don't like? I thought you fixed the piro on punchout issue.

I thought you fixed the piro on punchout issue. Well, the piro on a punchout thing is much better. It just turns very slightly but nothing bad. But now, the nose is constantly turning to the right, even in forward flight. I have to hold a little left rudder all the time while flying it.

Use trim. I know it is not "right" but it is how I cancel out drift on mine. It works and may need a click or two of adjustment during a flight.

Use trim. I know it is not "right" but it is how I cancel out drift on mine. It works and may need a click or two of adjustment during a flight. I tried that today, although I never tried using any rudder trim before. I gave it 2 clicks of left rudder trim and it flew great, for a minute or two. Tried a full collective punch-out to see how the tail held. The motor spun up real fast, but the heli dropped to the ground. I checked the main gear and it wasn't stripped, then tried to spin the pinion gear on the motor shaft and it was tight. Only other thing I can think of, is the OWB must be slipping. I spooled it up again and it was OK till I hit the collective hard, then it did the same thing, motor spun up fast and the heli dropped. This might have also been causing some of my tail problems. I have a spare main gear with the OWB already installed in it, so gonna change it and see what happens. Thanks for the tips Ivan, someday I am gonna get this little turd flying right, I hope.

Well, I replaced the the main gear and OWB assembly, and now I got more problems, or, should I say, the old problems are now worse. The OWB must have been slipping as the heli seems to have much more 'punch', but the tail piro's out of control on even minor collective inputs. The tail pitch slider is moving as far as possible without hitting, but here is the real kick in the butt. It will not even piro to the right at all. Full left rudder piros are pretty fast, but at full right rudder the heli will barely even do a full 360 piro to the right, but, do to the tail design, I can't get any more throw in that direction without it hitting the slider. Rudder end points in the radio are at 150 so nothing I can change there either. Grrrrrr. I just might be making the first post in our "for sale" section.

That sucks. Right rudder is the normal way it should piro if it had no gyro. How's it in rate mode? Just wondering because if it holds in rate mode, it should piro pretty much equally. How's the tail pitch at right stick, too?
