Guys,
The manual says to not mount the ESC in the canopy on the included pad , yet I see plenty of pics where people have done just that. It would be a godsend if I could put mine there due to some really short-a$$ motor wires. My canopy is one of the Fusano's with a hole in the chin if that makes any diff. Opinions?

I say if it fits, do it. My first ESC, a Castle ICE 75 didn't fit on it, so it went between the front part of the frame, over and slightly behind the front landing gear. Be aware of the implications of CG, though.

This is where I have my electronics. CG is pretty much spot on. I use a Hyperion 6S 2600 battery. I also use an Align 500 canopy that has a homegrown paint job with two coats of clear. The canopy is a little heavier than the stock canopy. I'm not sure about the all up weight anymore.

I believe Gaui revised the 425 manual due to possible heat issues. The esc on my 550 is on that mount beside the batteries and I have had no problems with it. Of course, here in W. Pa. the temps in the summer are usually only in the 70's so that might make a difference too.
On my 425 I cut the front of the frame off to make a modified 6s battery mount, so that esc mount is no longer there. I mounted the esc in the frame.

I'm gonna try it on that pad in the nose and see if it comes down hot. I'm just going to be hovering for the time being on stock gearing so I'm not going to be asking too much.

Well, best laid plans and all that, I mocked it up about 20 ways and it looks like the ESC will go on the frame on the left side. I was concerned about CG but not now. Being a total novice on large or medium birds, I am grateful to the community for the help.
