I have to say that I never had problems with a 2600 6s battery mounted on the underside of the nose section using a stock canopy using that little G10 tray. It was tight but it worked. Something is wrong somewhere. I did eventually go to a custom battery tray mod from a guy in Texas that worked best.
I'm sure sorry your 425 experience has had so many rough spots!

I don't think I'm alone in having issues with this particular canopy unfortunately Scott. Spootman and Optimistic both had the same issue www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=234154 Some of the 425 FG 204166 canopies seem to be coming from the factory way too small. It's ridiculous when even 2200s are a tight squeeze. Spootman even tried Jerry's frame mod and it still wouldn't fit. At least I know that wouldn't work now! Anyway, I've emailed the place where I bought this canopy from and asked if I can exchange it for this one trexmad.com/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=381_388_389_390_392&products_id=4761&zenid=558d05e8284ea5e60c7b9a0cedf4ca71 The 550 equivalent. Not too hopeful of an exchange to be honest but I'll see what he says. Yes, it has been a testing build ;D A lot of the issues were in fitting the mini servos. Still a half arsed solution from Gaui! I know the frame is designed around standard servos but when you see that the kit comes with spacers for minis I wrongly assumed Gaui had it all nicely designed! They should supply a cheap Dremel type tool with the kit Just think of all the fun we're going to have once I get this beast airborn ;D Scott, when you say you've never had a problem fitting lipos with the stock canopy, do you mean the milk jug that comes with the kit or the FG 204166 one I have the issues with? The milk jug one certainly sounds bigger. I've not put mine together, maybe I'll resort to that one if I can't get a refund. I've used the split canopy, a stock Gaui red/white fg canopy, and numerous Fusuno canopies, all without issue.

I am wondering if maybe some of the canopies might be packaged wrong. Gaui makes a 425 FG canopy for the plastic framed version, and one for the CF framed version. I don't know for sure what the difference is, but maybe one is smaller than the other, and some have been packaged wrong, I dunno.
Grrr, cough, cough, cough, can't even type. Been real sick for last 3 days.

Not the dreaded Manflu?
Good thinking Jerry. That could explain the issues people are having. Mine was probably molded by someone with a hangover.

Jerry - Did you document anywhere the modifications you made to the frame to fit your 6s lipo? I can see a pic you posted but I can't quite see what you did. I've not touched the 425 since getting completely frustrated trying to find a lipo to fit. I've spent a stupid amount of time mocking up lipos with cardboard making sure they matched manufacturer's listed dimensions (and you can usually take those with a pinch of salt) I'm not splashing more cash on a 550 canopy and I don't want to take a gamble and order lipos and find they don't fit. I may try the battery mod as a last resort or just sell the Gaui and get something else. The other option is to use two 2200mah 3s. They fit but only just! I got some kind of flu, that's for sure.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics of the front of the frame where I cut it off. Basically, I used the wedge shaped filler from the 425 kit that is supposed to go under the bottom battery tray. I put one of the side pieces against the front of the frame and traced it down through the battery mounts, then cut the frame of on the line. I put the 3 pieces of the filler together then CA'd and screwed it to what was left of the old battery mount. I only attached it by the 2 side plates so I could still separate the frames sides if needed. The center piece is just snapped into the sides and not glued. There are a couple of pics in the "options" board, but not sure if they will help you much. gauihelicoptertalk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=options&action=display&thread=87

Cheers. I've ordered a couple of lipos from HK so hopefully they'll be with me soon. I'll update the thread and hopefully get some flights in before our first child arrives!

Cheers Scott. Four months to go. Had all the scans and everything looks fine. It was one of those now or never life decisions as I'm knocking on 40 and my wife is, how can I put this, a little older! Congratulations! I hope you get it flying, too! Let us know! Scott

Geez, that must be why I feel so old sometimes. I am 52 and have a 'grandson' that will be 11 years old next month. I also now have a 1 month old grandson too.
Congrats Chip.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm looking forward to it and naturally scared at the same time! I'm one of those people that would never hold other people's babies for fear of dropping them! When its old enough I'll hand them the MSR transmitter. I'll enrol them in Junior Blades - local football (soccer) team as soon as they're born :-)
Funny thing Jerry. My mother gave up any hope of having grand kids and moved to the coast five years ago, a six hour drive away! I think she's now seriously considering moving back nearer to home.

Well, I hope she moves back to be closer to her new grand child. My mother happens to live next door to my daughter and son-in-law, so she sees her great grandson every day. She is 78 years old and says she is looking forward to holding her 'great-great grand child' someday, lol.

So long as she doesn't move next door! Lipos have arrived. A very, very tight fit. But they do fit, just. It's such a struggle to get the canopy on that it has cracked around the mounting holes. Bit shaky this pic as my arm was shaking trying to hold the heli. Trimming the plastic which you can see overhanging the landing gear will allow the lipo to slide further towards the frame. That should make the canopy easier to fit and maybe get the CoG correct as it's a little nose heavy.

I used those very batteries on my plastic framed Gaui. It was a tight fit, but it worked. I also flipped the bottom canopy mount so the pin faces down--per Jerry.

I'm not using the pin as it doesn't fit with this lipo and the FG canopy I have. It's such a tight fit that it doesn't budge anyway. I used those very batteries on my plastic framed Gaui. They're great quality and they fit pretty well. Scott
