Wow that Gaui is tiny. I thought the T-Rex 250 was small. Congrats on getting everything in the frame I would never been able to do it lol.

Nice looking little heli. It doesn't really look too much smaller than my Gaui 200. What size main blades, 160mm?
I love flying my 200, but not working on it, as I can hardly see the tiny screws even with my 'cheaters' on, lol.
BTW, when we first put the site together we had a EP 100 board but it never had a single thread in it so I deleted it. I didn't know that you could still buy those anywhere. If anybody is interested in having a separate board for it again, just let us know and we can add it and move this thread there also.

Yes, I think they're 160mm. You could set up a new board but I think I'd be the only one rattllng around inside it! I don't know what Gaui are doing with the EP100. If you go to their web site they have it listed in their legacy section which to me suggest they no longer supply it. But I wonder if they just make it to order if someone wants to stock it. There is only one supplier here in the UK (Buzzflyer) and they sell the stock EP100 and the three blade one along with spares. I love that tiny Hughes canopy they stock for it. www.buzzflyer.co.uk/sub-micro-rc-helicopters.aspI found this pic on RCGroups showing the size comparison between the EP100 and EP200. The EP100 is the ELE Firefox but it's the same size as the Gaui. Walkera 4/3 on the left, EP100 in the middle, EP200 on the right.

Actually it's not too bad to work on. The frame is a really nice design allowing you to get to most parts fairly easily. It looks a bit like a mini Mikado! Then again I've always flown tiny stuff like the Walkera so I'm used to working on these tiny things. But if you do your homework in the forums you can get the right servos and everything fits together without much of an issue. Wow that Gaui is tiny. I thought the T-Rex 250 was small. Congrats on getting everything in the frame I would never been able to do it lol.

So far I've only hovered in the house. I've run around twenty packs through it setting things up and tweaking and it is now very smooth and stable. As is the norm with these small helis you have to make sure that the setup is meticulous! I had eight 2s lipos lying around that I used to run through my Honey Bee FP and it was a shame seeing them not getting used. So I looked around for a small heli that would run on 2s. Looks like this one will fit the bill nicely. I really like it so far. Are you going to get one Vas and join the club? ;D when i saw the pic i thought it was a mini logo. Looks cool. I tidied things up a bit today by removing the plastic casing from the Rx and putting it up front to make it easier to fit 800mah and 1000mah lipos. Lots of room now on the bottom shelf for the lipo. The heat from the motor melted the Gaui sticker on the motor ;D

Whilst i really like watching and playing with the smaller helis, i don't have the patience. The 200 is still sitting in the box with the one-day label. One-day though we will Vas

I know exactly what you mean. While this little thing flies great it is high maintenance. Already I've had things break and slip and I haven't even crashed it. It's a very tricky beast to keep in good flying order and I don't think the plastic tail case can cope with the power. But of course there is a metal EP100! Though the belt is very small it gives the heli a tough time. A torque tube would be nice. Every few flights I'm starting to have issues. You need the patience of a saint.

I spoke too soon! I think I'll retire this thing. I'm well used to small micros but this thing has pushed my patience too far! Wag, tweak, wag, tweak, more wag, more tweaking. End result wag, wag and more wag. It's a fickle little thing I can now understand why Gaui stopped producing it and replaced it with the EP200. I must have replaced almost every part in an attempt to get the tail to behave. Not to mention multiple combinations of servos, gyros, belts, bearings, sliders. You name it. Frustrating as it did fly very well initially.

Sorry to hear that. All the work wasted. Just as a question, did you try shortening the tail blades? It'll cut down on mechanical gain.

That's one thing I've not tried Scott. Will give that a try tomorrow but it did fly perfectly well with the same tail blades initially so I'm not so sure that's the issue. It's frustrating when you know what the usual culprits are for solving wag and you check all those areas and everything seems fine. I know many people gave up on the EP100 but it must be possible to get the thing flying smoothly, for more than a day at least. Sorry to hear that. All the work wasted. It seems kind of strange that it flew good initially, but does not fly as well now. I had the opposite problem with my 200. I bought it used and had a lot of trouble with the tail holding. I kept finding more issues with it all the time and should have just rebuilt it from the start.
I finally got it flying nicely and it still flys great.

I love that logo style plastic frame. I wish i had a frame like that for all my helis. I know you have tried a lot of things to get rid of the wag, but have you swapped out the tail spindle with a new one and checked the main blade tracking? I hope you can get it flying well because it looks like a great little heli. I do have some Gaui v2 spare parts if you need me to send you some if it would be of any help.

Hi Steve - That's a very kind offer! Thank you. I'm in the UK though but we have a couple of Gaui dealers. Do the EP200 tail shafts fit the EP100? I haven't swapped out the tail shaft but I have taken it out to check it and it's perfectly straight. I also spun up the tail with just the shaft and no tail blades and it appears perfectly straight. Blades are balanced. Pitch is even on both blades. I've noticed what feels like a high frequency vibe running through the frame. It's very difficult to see by eye but I can feel it through my fingers. It's possible that could be playing havoc with the gyro. I don't know. This also shows up with the rudder control rod vibrating at high rpms. I sorted that out by supporting the control rod with a plastic support rod guide from my 250. I did try a carbon rod and that vibrated just as much. I've noticed a very slight amount of play in the main shaft. It's possible that could be the cause. The shaft is straight but I'll try swapping it out. The problem with tiny high rpm helis is they have so little mass to damp out vibrations! I love that logo style plastic frame. I wish i had a frame like that for all my helis. I know you have tried a lot of things to get rid of the wag, but have you swapped out the tail spindle with a new one and checked the main blade tracking? I don't know if the tail spindles are the same or not, but i do know that changing out the tail spindle on my v2 solved my vibration issues at high rpms. I thought the original tail shaft was straight, but i guess it was off just enough to cause the vibrations and swapping it out solved the problem. I hope you get it all resolved. Are all the bearings (main shaft and tail case) secure and good?

Another thing to try that can eliminate high frequency vibrations is to make sure the boom support rods have their ends glued in GOOD. I used some JB Weld on my 550 rods and that helped a lot.

Not sure if this helps or not, but according to Gaui's site the tail shaft assembly part #203121 says it is for the EP 100 mini zoom, and the Hurricane 200 V2, so my guess is that they are the same although I personally can't verify that.. eng.gaui.com.tw/d981119/html/parts_list.asp?area=2&cat=17

Nice tip on the boom supports Scott. I CA'd the support ends today.
Thanks Jerry. That's good to know. It seems a quite a few parts are the same on both the 100 and 200.
I've stripped down the EP100 and added various sections of damping. When I get it back together I'll report back.
