I am looking to buy a scale fuselage for my Gaui Hurri 550. So far I find them for the 200 but none for the 550. Can you help?
Thanx.....Rich

I haven't really seen any made specifically for the Hurri 550, but a fuse for a 30 sized nitro might be close to the right size, I dunno.
Since Align helicopters are very popular, it might not be too long before somebody offers one for the 550e, which might also fit the Hurri.

I have just received word from Heli-Direct. They expect to get some in quite soon. These are said to be made for the Gaui 550. Not sure if this would be a hassle to assemble or not. It shouldn't be if it is designed for the Hurri. It is probably going to be a modification of those meant for the Align 500e.
Heli Direct said they would let me know when they receive them. I'll post any info at that time.
Cheers!......Rich

Great news! Based on a gearing choice gone awry at IRCHA, I bet the 550 would be an outstanding choice for scale modeling!

Well, I would love to have at least one scale helicopter myself. Hehe, at the moment I am waiting on the "official OK" from the wifey, and I might just go ahead and try to put the 550 into a fuse from Century. They have one for the Swift electric which is real close to the same size as the Hurri 550, but it says it is made just for the Swift 16 and the Swift 550 and will not fit any other helicopter. I might just try one of the standard .30 size instead. www.centuryheli.com/products/fuselages/funkey/fkagustacn4027/index.html?currentid=180

I recently purchased a Heliartist fuse for my Gaui 550 with the shortened 500 boom and blades. Unfortunately the boom sticks out of end of the fuse by about 4 inches. It flys really well but I am thinking about going with the 425 boom and blades for a better look. Can anyone advise if the gearing and motor that I have will work for scale flying or will I have to regear and change the moter for higher head speed.

What KV is your motor? Once we get that, we can give you gearing. I do know that with an 1100 kv motor 14-20-60-61 did very well in my "mistake" at IRCHA last year. With the same motor, 13-19-60-61 would probably do better in terms of scale. It would be very mild.

I am not certain. It's the stock motor that came with the 550. I think maybe 850? Gearing is 14/42/20/61. I don't have EXCEL so I can not get the head speed calculator to work. I installed the 430 blades and it flys ok but head speed is to low. Does not seem to have the lift that it had with the 500 blades. No punch at all. Would it be better to change the motor, change the gears, or combination of both? Your advise is appreciated.

I don't know which motor comes with the 550. My foray into Gaui started with an IRCHA Gaui kit and it was bare bones.
Here's the deal with scale... they don't have punch. They're supposed fly like a full scale helicopter. With your gearing, you should have pretty decent headspeed. For scale, you want something extremely tame. So, if you're tame under 430mm blades, there you go.
No excel... OpenOffice should be able to run the spreadsheet.

Quite a few Gaui 550 owners over here have used fuselage designed for Thunder Tiger Raptor 30's to good effect and they say it needs almost no modding. They seem to use the later more powerful motor and esc with 550 mm semi symetrical blades and fairly slow head speeds.
Hope this helps and good luck with your project.

That looks great, what brand of fuselage is that? I would like to get one for my long boomed 550. I can't seem to find a fuse anywhere here in the states.....

Dear Jerrymac Sorry About the late reply. It is a heliartist fuse. I picked up on it since it was also for the gaui 425 which uses the same mechanics as the 550. It took a little modding for what I wanted.. which is loop capability. I made a boom extension to do away with the 3/4 pants look; that is the boom part of the fuselage not extending all the way down the boom. if you decide to do it and I take long to reply Scotty knows where to find me.

Thanks Phil, I was wondering where you got one to fit the long boom. So it is for a "500" sized bird and you modded the boom end of the fuse to lengthen it huh? What did you use to do that mod and how much longer did you have to make it for the long boom? Barry, do you know what brand of fuselage those guys are using? I can't even find a 30 sized fuse here in the states. Century site just directs me to a dealer here that doesn't even have anything in stock. Jerry

Hi Jerrymac, the most popular over here are the Funkey scale bodies with Century a close second but I did see one with a Graupner AS355 scale body on it but I could not find it at any of our main UK heli parts sellers. Quite a few Funkey .30 scale bodies on E Bay at the moment though.
Best of luck in your search.

Dear Uncle Jerrymac i had to extend it by 5 and 3/4 inches. Depending on what you wanna do. I wanted my swash out of the fuselage. Even barring that my boom was under a little strain so i lifted it a little more to get the boom going down the middle of the fuse. One guy with a 425 just built his up by 10mm level. My base was an incline...forgot for now ..can measure when you're ready something like 14mm to 10mm...also for my 3300 turnigy 6s battery to fit(nearly perfect balance when you move BEC, and RX battery foward. I used Avery translucent clear label index maker presentation dividers www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Products/Dividers/Index-Maker-Dividers/Index-Maker-Clear-Label-Translucent-Dividers_11449.htm exact thing gotten at maybe any office supply store.. Easily bendable, non breakable and crazy glue stickable and i sprayed it black. i did try to stitch it but not necessary for now

hurricane hughes freaked out in the air and crashed. I was hoping to evaluate what happened, but the head cam was badly positioned, so I'm only evaluating sound.
Already in the process of repairs

Bad news that Phil and the reason I keep putting off fitting the Cobra body to my Mini Titan and the A190 to my King 2!! but I love the look of scale heli's, s and one day I many get brave enough
My biggest problem (apart from regularly crashing !!) is that I quite enjoy mending the mechanical bits post crash but I hate having to do the body repairs and painting etc
Hope you get it all nicely back together again soon

Ok Here goes The usual stuff in a crash..blades, mainshaft, feathering, boom, flybar, tail blades, tail servo control rod, sprained strut skids, fuselage nose(write off) and a paddle. You guys might be the best is evaluating my findings. I do have thoughts on the crash and am making effort to rectify. I don't wanna say, as I'm the only one I've heard with that problem. I'm already live in the looney bin and don't want folks to find another place for me. They might want to euthanise.
Start of crash...My heli pitched foward and could not be righted.
According to the sound in the badly focused head cam vid, from the time of the malfunction it was 2 secondes to the crash.
Investigation.. the bell crank for the elevator came out(no damage anywhere on the latter half of the fuselage behind the removeable nose)...Investigation.. that screw only has 3 threads extending into the elevator arm..investigation... the screw still screws into the elevator arm, meaning none of the plastic pulled out under force. I checked my spares and the screw is the same length in the packet. SCREW TOO SHORT from manufacturers. I put the screw in the bell crank alone and tried to screw it in; yes and then it tightened against the stop in the bell crank, giving the illusion the screw has gone a good way into the elevator arm..only 3 threads inside. Maybe the added weight tested all areas. I will have to change it to a machine screw as I can't find any 2mm self tapping screws longer than the stock of 11mm long. I found machine screws 20mm long from bolts depot .com. The original screw seems identical to the futaba servo mounting screw.
Was that was an accident waiting to happen? Are your screws the same way? aggrrhh
