On the servos... be careful with the tail and those servos. Like I said before make perfectly certain the geometry is correct. If you need help, Jerry and I will do our best to help you out.

I have no experience on the Airtronics front. Sorry. Yeah, I like PT, as well. Scott

Huh, somehow I completely missed the second page of this thread earlier. Anyhow, no experience here with the Airtronics radio either, but, if you have trouble with the programming and explain the menu selections on it, I am sure that one of us here can help you get it set up. If need be, I'm sure that one of the guys here can look up the manual online to get an idea of the programming menus to help out with that.

So I got the Heli Kit and Radio. Radio was on sale for 150 at LHS with 2 receivers. I can put one in my 3d2 plane when I fix it! WOOHOO! Now the build. Parts will come in slowly but surely as I get money, but I got the expensive part(RADIO) out of the way. I went with the airtronics rds8000 and it looks SOLID! 8 channels too, with 10 model memory. I support it. Feels stupidly solid too.
So if I wanna run nitro eventually, I can. It was the best deal. Heli Kit will arrive on thrusday. Not bad! 2 day turnaround. I can deal with that! Oh and uh...Heres a hit for All E Rc. Coupon Code YAHOO10 10 percent off an order. Worked for me! I got the kit for 77 bucks shipped!!!!

Paul, the Airtronics might just be a very good radio, nobody here said that is wasn't. Scott and I only mentioned that neither of us has had any experience with them, in case you might have had some questions about programming it, that's all. Where did you find the coupon code for AlleRC? Wish I would have known about it yesterday as I got 2 helis to repair, and 2 that are still in the " build" stage, and just placed a large parts order yesterday. Keep us updated on the progress, and, good luck with the build. Jerry

Oh! I didnt mean the last post to be in a negative connotation at all! Yea it looks great! I just didnt have the money for the dx7, so I sought out alternatives.
So the package is shipped and is on its way to corona!
I need to order blades and the motor for this time. When I get more tips at work i will get everything else. Thanks for the help and advice!
It is very very much appreciated!

Very cool, Paul. Like Jerry, I've spent some bucks at AlleRC in the past few days... 10 off would have been a good thing. It's cool, though... The good news is the parts are here! Bad news... I have to wait until tomorrow to put them on. Scott

Looks good to me and the shaft is the right size. You're not going to burn up the skies with it, but it's gonna be a good starter!

Due to it's size, it should be an easy fit. My Tonic-X Z20-1470kv motor is 43mm in diameter. I doubt if I could slip a piece of paper between the motor and the pitch and roll arms on the plastic framed Hurri 425. That motor is 37mm so it will have lots of clearance. At 650 watts, I would tend to agree with Scott, that it might be a little under-powered, but, if need be, you can always begin upgrading the heli in the future as your budget permits. The main thing is, Enjoy the addiction ( I mean Hobby, lol ) Soon, you will be getting a second job to build that 2nd, then that 3rd, then that 4th, ahhh , never mind, you get the idea. ;D ;D Jerry

Just thought you guys should know that the Gaui arrived in my mail today. The build has commenced and after about 2 hours, I have the body and rotorhead good to go.

Very cool, Paul. Make sure to use Thread lock... usually blue loctite on any metal/metal screw. Also, you may want to use CA (super glue) on metal/plastic screws. Scott

Glad to hear that your build has started. What do you think of the kit so far? ( Aside from the cheap plastic canopy.)

Its a pretty solid kit. Parts are cheap and its easy to build. I got most of it done in bout 3 hours, but....I forgot about the loctite so ill have to do that. Im in no big hurry so its not a big deal. I also broke one of the ball links on the rotor head during installation so ill have to get a new one. And I accidentally put the one way gear the wrong way. But... Its goin pretty good. Gonna go get some ball link pliers tomorrow so I dont have to kill my hands. Possibly a pitch gauge too. Ill have to have someone here in CA show me how to set up the heli. There happens to be a heli specialized hobby shop about 15 miles away(which is a huge distance for my standards. Haha) So ill have them help me out, or will just go to a club. My city has 2 so I am lucky there too.

Man, I know about torn up fingers. I play guitar too, so doing ball links killed my fingers until I got two of these: www.experiencerc.com/store/hmxr4859_heli_ball_tool-p-3742.htmlTwo of those and ball link pain is gone!! Seriously. Get good ball link pliers. I'm using the JR Ball Link pliers, now. I haven't so much as scratched a link since getting mine. They're more expensive, but you won't ruin parts. I also have a set of Align pliers, but those got retired when I got the JR Pliers. There are some that say a pitch gauge isn't necessary, but I think it's absolutely essential. Without one, you'll be guessing a lot. I even use a small one on my tail blades during tail setup so I can get a good starting point. Also, don't let the heli dude set-up your helicopter for you. Have them instruct you on how to do it. Once you do one, mechanical and radio, it's pretty easy. I can now do a complete setup on any of my helicopters in about 15 minutes. It's just part of growing into the hobby. You're lucky you have nearby resources, even though they're far by your standards!!! LOL! Scott Scott

I feel ya there. I am a drummer so my fingers were killing me! Yea, i need to have someone instruct me. Hopefully I can have someone show me for free and/or cheap.
If they are cool about it, of course.

Paul, One of the things about this hobby is that most people are really cool about sharing and helping. I don't think you'll have any problem finding someone local to help and be offended if you offered to pay! LOL! BTW, I play drums, too... I have since I was 7. That's lessons until 17. I have a Hart electronic kit in my basement, I use NSKit for sounds or other things, even triggering my keyboard. Lot's of fun when time permits. Scott

Thats awesome man. I live with two professional guitarists so the amount of music being played at my house is near constant. I got the blades and motor today. Its 650w, as mentioned before....1500 kv. Now, given Watt's Law, P=IxE 650=Ix22.2 650/22.2=about 30 amperes drawn.
Should I get a 50 amp or 60 amp esc and call it a day, or what? Will it be able to lift the helicopter? I mean, it is within the specified KV range, albeit lax on power.

If the motor only draws 30 amps, the 50A esc will be ok. And, yes it will lift the heli off just fine. It will probably just be a little sluggish, that's all. It should hover and fly forward flight just fine, but, might be under-powered for aggressive flying.
