Here's just how far I've progressed in my Velocity 50 build. I've stopped for the day, but building resumes tomorrow... So, that's it for the day. I'm still not too sure on servos, but I have other electronics selected, some I have others I don't. Switchglo Pro -- don't have Multigove Pro -- don't have Spektrum Backplate Sensor -- I have Spartan DS760 -- I have Spektrum AR 7000 -- don't have Of course, I don't have servos. I don't want to run a Regulator, so these are servos I know will work straight off the battery: Align DS620, Ino-lab HG-D760MG, and Outrage Torq servos. I am also considering Spektrum H6040 servos but I'm not certain they can handle 7.4 volts. That's about it for now. Scott

Looks like it is starting to take shape. Wow, that sure is a lotta screws in the frame. I think my wrist would get wore out putting them all in.

You know, Jerry... After I finished it to that point, I was actually tired. It took a long time to get to that point. Cleaning screws, cleaning threaded metal (which is a must with this helicopter--there's a lot of oil in the threads). At least that part is done. Pretty much all I have to do with the other sides of the frame is to screw it on. First, I have to run the fuel, pressure, and filling vent lines. Then it's on to making sure the shaft is aligned. After that, gear mesh. Finally, I'll install control arms and links to the head, install the tail, and I'm done until I can get and install electronics. That may be a while. Even if I had the money, it's way too cold to fly it outside.
The links on the head are REALLY tight. I've been told not to resize them, so cold weather break-in flights are pretty much out of the question. People over on Helifreak say the links resize themselves very quickly, so we shall see.
Speaking of resizing links... I made that resizer with a ball you mentioned. It works great. Thank you, sir!

It's about as done as it's gonna get until I can get electronics. It's friggin' huge! I'll post pictures tomorrow. Can't do it tonight... company.

Scott Hehe Scott, I can just see a new member reading this some day and scratching their head, since I posted that for you over in the "Struggling" thread at RCU, and not here, lol. Glad it worked for you. Jerry

The Velocity 50 is really lookin good. Looks like you are ready for some electronics, which are probably going to be a little pricey for that guy. That is an awesome looking fleet of helicopters Scott. Something to be proud of. I can remember back when we first became RC heli friends and the second heil from the right ( in your fleet photo ) was the only one that you had. Seems like a long time ago, lol, but in fact, it was just this past year. What's next, a Rappy 90 ? I will be looking forward to the maiden flight video when you get it finished. Good luck with the rest of the build. Jerry.

Amazing. Last year at this time, I was posting where I wanted to fly the BH500 (the one you correctly pointed out!) stock... and then two weeks later had swapped out the radio and was well on the way to swapping out the gyro, then servos, then plastic parts.... it went on and on. Man, what a journey. Still, I have to say it has been fun and rewarding and you've been the one constant. Thank you, my friend. Scott

Scott, that V50 is looking good!! It doesn't look TOO much longer than the H550 but it does have a higher profile (hey, you gotta put that engine and fuel tank somewhere ;D ;D). Can't wait to see and hear that one in the air. Good luck with it.

Blades alone... 630mm vs 550mm... Heavier, too. It was amazing carrying both. Compared to the BH500, it's a rock. The T-Rex 450 pro is heavier than the BH500. Scott

SEXY!!!! I cant wait to hear flight reports!! Love the look of the fleet. What size blades on that BH500? They look smaller than the T500 blades. I can't seem to find accurate info on that heli. I am going to see what Outrage is all about here pretty soon... smaller scale than you though.

Ivan, I apologize for not replying sooner. I think we need to work on the new posts feature here. It's too easy to miss new things. Thanks for the compliments! I wish it would warm up soon so I can fly the larger helicopters outside. We're expecting a big storm mid week, so I'm thinking I'll have to wait. Is that storm gonna hit you? The BH500 isn't really a 500 in terms of blades, it swings 350mm blades, it's actually not that much larger than a T-Rex 450. It's light as all get out, though. I was really surprised to find it much lighter than the 450pro. KaPlanes sells BH500's, still. I think they're liquidating all their stock so they can refund newer items. So, I think it's going to be an orphan pretty soon. Also, BPHobbies used to sell a rebranded Helipro BH500. I'm chomping at the bit to get moving on getting the V50 finished. I figured out a way to save almost $100 on a tail servo so I jumped at it. The tail servo is settled...it's going to be a Futaba S9256. I'm pulling it from the 550 and installing a Hyperion 20GMD in it. I ordered the Hyperion today from KaPlanes and took advantage of their 20 percent discount on everything in the store. Still, I'm unsettled on cyclic and throttle servos. I watched your 600 flight video just now! Wow! You've been bitten! Scott

Hopefully today is the day I get finished with electronics on the V50. Yesterday, I ordered the following items: 3 Outrage Torq BLS 9080 cyclic servos 1 Align DS620 servo for the throttle 1 Aerospire Multigov pro 1 AR6200 receiver (to replace the AR7000 I'm pulling from my T-Rex 500 and using it in the V50) So, the final electronics will be the above, plus: Spartan DS760 gyro (also from the T-Rex 500 which is going to get the Quark I already have) Futaba S9256 servo for the tail (from the Gaui/Head Hunter 550 which is getting a Hyperion DS20GMD for the tail). Western Robotics Titan Regulator -- to power the tail and throttle servos. NRG 2500mAh receiver battery. Since the Torq servos are High Voltage, power is going unregulated to the receiver. The regulator I have is two inputs and it will be fed by the servo output of the gyro and the throttle output from the Aerospire Multigov pro. I just hope this stuff arrives today.. tracking doesn't look good, though. Scott

Looks like you are gonna have one awesome machine when its finished. Of course, since your are swapping some parts from the others, you will be working on three at a time. Since your weather is probably always worse than ours here, you will probably still have about 6 to 8 more weeks to finish it.

Thanks, Jerry... I'm trying. It hasn't been a fast build, has it? Frankly, after pulling parts and reinstalling substitute parts, I'm done for the day. Yep, the remaining electronics came today, so installation will start tomorrow. You're right... I'm in no hurry! LMAO!!!! Scott

Well, it is a much faster build than my Hurri 425. After all, you picked up that kit for me last summer and I still don't have it finished yet. I got most all the stuff just sitting there on the bench, but can't seem to find the time to put it all together. Of course, sometimes I have to go searching for parts since at least one or more of the wife's cats seem to like to play with them and knock them off the bench, then push them underneath the bench while playing with them. Once while cleaning up, I think I found enough parts under the bench to build another BH 450. No wonder I have made so many parts purchases from Ka-Planes.

You have had a lot going on, sir. In my build... well, I forgot to order the on/off switch. UGH. Ordered it today, then Clyde Fox (whose son is a sponsored Outrage pilot) sent me a link for a switch that cost $1.70. Go figure. It's always that way. Scott

Hmmm, what kinda switch did you need Scott? If it is anything like the Spektrum on-off switch that I use for binding my receivers, ( hooks to battery, bind plug, and RX) you shoulda hollered. I know they sell for around 10 bucks each, but I got a half-dozen of them off of a guy on e-Bay for a total of $12 shipped, and I only needed 1,lol.

I know they sell for around 10 bucks each, but I got a half-dozen of them off of a guy on e-Bay for a total of $12 shipped, and I only needed 1,lol. Yep, that's exactly what I needed. I just broke down today and used the one I was using for setups. I have the one I ordered Sunday coming Wednesday, so I'm set. Thanks, though. Yesterday (Monday) I installed the cyclic servos and the on/off switch(!), so that's done. If I don't go flying tomorrow (very likely because I had a conference call at 2PM -- during my normal sleep time) and I'm not too tired, I'll install the Multigov and the Titan regulator (sounds huge, but it's tiny). If I have enough time, I'll install the Spartan gyro and Switchglo Pro. I don't think I'll get that far because I have to concentrate on wire management. Normally, I'd just wrap the excess wire up and stuff it someplace out of sight, but this has a lot more wire to deal with and the stuffing spot is an airflow point for the head of the engine. So, yeah... what I'm saying is this: making this helicopter look neat is going to be creative process. However, once all that is done, it'll be time for my fun which is CCPM setup. It's the one area apart from building where you can really make or break (literally) a helicopter and is really a lot of fun for me. After that, I'll have to setup the gyro, the switchglo, and the Multigov. LOL! After that... it's fuel and a starter and I'm ready to start breaking it in! Weather permitting, it may be airborne in some form before leaving for vacation! Scott

I hear ya on the wiring. When I first put my 550 together I thought, wow, nice big frame to keep the wires neatly routed. Then when I decided to use a separate 2s 2500mah rx pack and stuff it in the frame it took up all of my wiring space. Hope you get to maiden it before you go away on vacation too. Jerry
